The Third Chinese Civil War, commonly called the Chinese Civil War's final phase, was the decisive conflict (1945–1949) between the Chinese Communist Party and the Nationalist Kuomintang that led to the establishment of the People's Republic of China and the retreat of the Nationalist government to Taiwan.
