The Spanish conquest of the Río de la Plata region was the 16th-century campaign through which Spain subdued Indigenous peoples and established colonial settlements around the Río de la Plata estuary in present-day Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and parts of Bolivia and Brazil.
