Spanish exploration of Oceania was a series of 16th- and 17th-century maritime expeditions by Spain that charted and claimed parts of the Pacific, including many island groups in Micronesia, Melanesia, and Polynesia, in pursuit of new trade routes, territories, and mythical lands.
